Disney Tsum Tsum Pretzel Snacks

Since I love all things cute and tiny - I am a huge fan of Tsum Tsums!

What's a Tsum Tsum you ask? They are cute plush versions of your favorite Disney characters that can be stacked.  They were originally created for Disney Japan since Japan loves all that is cute and tiny as well - but the craze has caught on all over the world.  The name comes from a Japanese term for stack and you pronounce it "soom soom"

Aren't they the cutest? I am trying to get my kids to collect but they are not as interested as I would have been at that age! My daughter also has this super cute Tsum Tsum t-shirt...

So I was inspired to make them in pretzel snack form!

They actually came together pretty quickly since the base is a square pretzel topped with discs of candy melt circles.  Details are added with other candies, sprinkles, more melted candy melt, and edible food writers.

You can mix and match your favorite characters.  They pretty much all come in Tsum Tsum form these days and not just plushies either - there are plastic or vinyl figures, games, and all kinds of other trinkets, clothes, and stuff plastered with Tsumy cuteness.

My favs are still Mickey and Minnie and Donald and Daisy

But Pooh and his friends come in a close 2nd!

Do you love Tsum Tsums? Which are your favs??

Have a great week and thanks for stopping by!

Beauty & The Beast Decorated Pretzel Squares

Are you guys as excited as I am for the new Beauty and the Beast movie opening on March 17th??

Belle has been my daughter's fav princess since she was tiny so we are totally making it a girl's nite out to see the movie.  So fun.

And although I love that Emma Watson (aka Hermione Granger) is Belle, I'm really excited to hear some of my favs as the infamous furniture and stuff in Beast's castle.  In case you hadn't heard, the voice line-up is pretty sweet:

Ian McKellen is Cogsworth the Clock
Emma Thompson is Mrs. Potts the teapot
Ewan McGregor is Lumiere the candlestick
Stanley Tucci is Forte the piano

And some of the other peeps are neat too:

Kevin Kline is Maurice (Belle's dad)
Josh Gad is LaFou (Gaston's lackey - he was also Frozen's Olaf!)

So in prep for the movie I made some pretzels decorated as Belle, Beast, and their time sensitive rose.

In general they are pretty easy to make.  I have a ton of candy melts in various colors and sprinkles hanging around the house so it was easy to pull these together on a Friday nite.

You could make your own little candy roses in place of these cereal roses, but I just happened to have some Moana cereal in the house (the cereal marketers get me every time!) so it worked out well.  Spray them with some edible food spray and you have some quick roses that actually are pretty tasty on pretzels snacks.

My kiddos love sweet and salty so decorated pretzel snacks are an easy win for me (see below I've made them a bunch of times).

Plus that kinda represents Belle and the Beast to me with the sweet and salty theme - although not sure anyone would call the Beast "salty" - let's just go with opposites then!

I may have to save a few and smuggle them into the theater opening weekend when we go see it.  Can't wait!

Bucket of Gems Brownie Cupcakes

The cupcake kick continues! My 3rd cupcake post in a row.

This time some "buckets" filled with "dirt" and "gem stones" aka chocolate brownie cupcakes, chocolate icing with crushed chocolate cookies and pieces of rock candy.

I love the colors that rock candy comes in.  The rainbow of colors is so pretty and they always have reminded me of fancy jewels.

I also like baking cupcakes in candy cups.  They are so sturdy and you can totally decorate them with markers because they are lined inside.  For these "buckets" I just colored them in with brown and black sharpie markers to look like little buckets.

I filled these with a box brownie batter and baked according to box directions.  You don't even need a cupcake tin since the cups are so study they stand up even with the batter added.

Add some chocolate frosting (use your favorite homemade recipe or a can frosting works great - and saves time too!)

Sprinkle on some crushed chocolate wafer cookies to look like dirt.

Crushing cookies is actually a nice after work stress reliever too :)

Break apart the rock candy into small and larger pieces and add them to the top of your dirt piles.  If you can't find rock candy you can also just use other colorful hard candies broken into pieces.  You could do all one color per cupcake or mix and match like below.  Personally I like the rainbow colors together.

Don't they look like little piles of fancy gems??

Hope you had an awesome weekend! Thanks for stopping by!

Minnie & Mickey Whoopie Pies

I needed a break from all the holiday posts lately and also had a craving for some whoopie pies.  But instead of plain old boring ones I thought Minnie and Mickey ears would be fun.  I saw these whoopie pies awhile back that are Mickey and Minnie shaped but thought it would be neat to make 2 tone cakes for Mickey and to also use the batter to make little Minnie bows.

Ever since going to Disney a couple of years back I got into all that is Minnie and Mickey - especially the ears.  They are so iconic for Disney!

Sadly, my kiddos (11 year old tween and 9 year old twins) feel they are too "old" for Mickey and Minnie Mouse.  First this month they dropped the bomb that Dr. Seuss is too babyish for them and now they are also too old for Mickey.

WHAT???!!!!

I can't take it anymore.  Stop growing up so dang fast.

As another example, I always make their birthday cakes every year.  The request from the 11 year old this year is for me to make a large single Cheeto puff cake.  No more "mom can you make me a fire truck" or "mom can you make me volcano or R2D2 or Iron Man or an Earth cake or even a Minecraft Creeper cake".  A CHEETO.  Come on!  So I refused and told him to come back in a week with a new proposal or to at least put a business case together for the Cheeto cake.  You know you have to teach them life lessons and all, and if you want a Cheeto cake - you need to sell the idea to everyone involved and get them on board.  If he comes back with a powerpoint slide deck with talking points you may see me posting a How To for a Cheeto cake!

Whatever, I'm still going to make them cute Disney treats.  They can't stop me.  But if you also see more Minecraft, Terraria, Plants Vs Zombies, or You Tube inspired treats, you'll know why.

So apparently these Mickey and Minnie whoopie pies are more for me than anyone else in this house- but that's fine too.  BUT if you are an AFOD (adult fan of Disney) or if your kiddos are still into Disney - make some today!

I shared the how to make these Mickey and Minnie whoopie pies here on sheknows!

Thanks for stopping by and have a sweet week!

Day 9 Star Wars Mickey Ear Cookie Pops #12daysofStarWars

Well we're onto the week of The Force Awakens!  Did you see the red carpet at the LA premiere today? I'm watching some on Periscope and it looks pretty insane.  Harrison Ford walked by and waved.  Did you know he's 73?? 73!!  I can only imagine what the official opening nite will be like.  (Must stay off of social media until we see the movie - on the 20th!)

And here we go onto the 9TH DAY OF STAR WARS

Mickey Ears Star Wars Cookies/Cookie Pops!

It's seems appropriate to mashup Disney and Star Wars into these cookies.  Ever since Disney bought the SW franchise you see SW themed everything.  It's almost a little ridiculous the amount of SW merch available.  Almost.  I figured Mickey ear cookies would make the most sense.

They are even no bake and start with store bought cookies to speed making them up.  These little chocolate chip cookies worked great.  Use a large icing tip to cut away a small edge of 2 cookies.  Then fit the cookies together like Mickey ears and "glue" together with melted chocolate.  They come together very quickly.

Most of the time is spent on the rest of the detail which is done with various colors of candy melting wafers (my most favorite kitchen supply!).  You can decorate and share as is or use more melted chocolate to add sticks to make cookie pops.

Either way they are super fun!

From top clockwise: Boba Fett, Yoda, Darth Vader, Death Star, Rebel Pilot, Chewbacca, R2D2, C3PO
Are you sick of all the SW posts yet??? Well I hope not since there are 3 more days to go!

Stop back everyday for another Star Wars treat or follow along on FacebookInstagram and/or Twitter! #12daysofStarWars @sugarswings

How To Mickey Ears Star Wars Cookies

Ingredients:
  • Store bought small chocolate chip cookies (or any flavor would work)
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips
  • Various colors of candy melting wafers
Directions:
  1. You will need 3 cookies per Mickey ear cookie (or cookie pop).  Use a large icing tip to cut away a small edge of 2 cookies.  Then fit the cookies together like Mickey ears and "glue" with melted chocolate.
  2. If making cookie pops, flip cookie over and add melted chocolate to center of cookie.  Insert stick and let harden 15 minutes.
  3. Once chocolate is hardened (10-15 minutes) add other detail with colors of melting wafers.  Add about 1/2 cup of wafers to a quart sized freezer bag, microwave in 20 second intervals until candy is melted  (usually 3-4 intervals depending on microwave).  Snip a small corner and "pipe" the candy. Use photos as a guide.  Let one layer harden completely before adding any candy on top.

Mickey Mouse & Friends Pretzel Snacks

I can't stop making sweet and salty pretzel snacks.  I think I may have a problem - but in my defense they are so easy (and portable) and fun to do.  Plus in general most people love the salty and sweet combo and they tend to get gobbled up at parties.  This time I used Mickey Mouse and his friends as the theme because who doesn't love Mickey Mouse?  Well my 10 year old doesn't but he's in that "I'm a big kid now and don't like baby stuff" phase - for some reason he thinks Disney is for babies, obviously he's got a lot to learn about life!

I like to use the square pretzels as the base, then just add candy melt/wafers in assorted colors.  Add the candy melts to a plastic freezer bag, microwave in 10 second intervals until just melted, snip a corner and "pipe" the colors on.

Add some sprinkles here and there before the candy is hardened to give some detail and you are pretty much done.

They really are super simple.  I call them minimalistic or abstract Mickey and Friends so I hope you can guess who is who but just in case here they are:

Here are some other fun sweet and salty pretzel snacks you might like too!
  1. Snowflake Pretzel Snacks to go along with some Disney Frozen movie cupcakes
  2. Pretzel Snacks in football team colors for a Super Bowl party
  3. Gold and chocolate pretzel snacks for an all gold dessert display
  4. Christmas Ornament mini cookies, cereal, sprinkles to look like little xmas ornaments
  5. Minion Pretzel Snacks for the Despicable Me movies

8. Little Birdie Pretzel Snacks - cute little birds made from jelly beans in a rainbow of colors

The patriotic flags are my most shared pretzel snack yet - again super easy for your upcoming 4th of July parties. Last year I was at a party and someone randomly brought these - can't tell you how much that made my day!

Happy almost Father's Day to all the dads out there! Hard to believe we are heading into the end of June already.  Thanks for stopping by and have a great rest of your week!
