Pink Ballerina Tutu Cereal Treats

Sometimes you just need a sweet treat.  And sometimes you just need a pink and girlie cereal treat.  It makes a long and tough day much better.  Plus cereal treats are so easy to make, you can whip them up in like 15 minutes or less.

Mix up a batch of rice krispie treats.  You can use traditional rice krispies or whatever cereal you have hanging around.  You can't mess them up.  All you need is:
  • 6 cups of cereal
  • 1 package of mini marshmallows (10 ounces)
  • 3 Tablespoons of butter
  • Pink food gel/coloring
  • Pink candy melt (Wilton makes a new "hot pink" color now!)
  • Pearlized larger nonpareil sprinkles
Melt butter in a deep pan over medium.  Add marshmallows (turn off heat).  Once all nice and melty, tint pink with food gel/coloring.  Mix in cereal.  Add to a pan.  Let the treats "set" 5-10 mins.

Cut your treats into squares, then just "pipe" some melted candy into the tutu dress shape.  Before the candy dries, add some sprinkle accents to the dress.

And that's it, simple cute little cereal treats! These were for a special little girl's birthday party, who just happens to love love (love) ballerinas.    Cereal treats make me smile, always have, always will.

Thanks so much for stopping by!! Have a great rest of your week!

Mini Chocolate All Edible Easter Baskets

It *finally* feels like spring made an appearance with temperatures reaching above 70 degrees on a few days AND Easter is right around the corner.  Yay! I absolutely love this time of year too - it's just so fun to get outside again, and see all the greenery and flowers coming back.

So I had to make something.  It's just what I do.  Since I just did some spring flower cupcakes, I decided on some mini and all edible Easter baskets.

I got a Wilton 3-D cupcake candy mold awhile back.  After procrastinating forevs, I did finally use it to make some molded chocolate cupcakes (there's a little somethin' somethin' inside them too!).  That said I kinda hate using kitchen stuff (think pans and molds) for 1 trick ponies and try to re-use them for other things.  I thought the bottom of the mold would make cute little baskets.  And they did!

Fill the mold with your favorite chocolate or candy melt.  Then apply the top part of the mold (it makes the cavity - I used some rubber bands to keep top secure).  Stick the entire thing in the fridge for about 15-20 minutes.  Once the candy/chocolate is hardened, they should pop right out.  You may need to neaten the edge up a bit if the chocolate overflows.  No biggie though if it does.

Make the basket handles with more melted candy/chocolate.  I measured the opening of the basket and just made sure the handle would be the right size (side note: I used the kiddo's wood ruler - you know the good ole' wooden foot long rulers from back in the day.  Some things never change although lots of other things change everyday!).

Attach handles with - guess what?? More candy melt or chocolate - it's the best edible glue ever!

Then comes the most fun part - fill each tiny basket with lots of tiny goodies! I found edible grass, Sweetarts chicks, ducks, and bunnies, jelly beans, and the cutest Iddy Biddy Bunnies from Russell Stover.   And by iddy biddy they mean super iddy biddy.

Fill them up!

These were a bigger hit with my 6 year old girlie girl then my 9 and 6 year old boys.  Must be too much pink.  Plus I think I passed along my love of tiny things to my daughter.  There could be worse things to pass along!

Well off to make 2 cakes for this weekend.  My twins are turning 7 and their party is this weekend.  I've been making their cakes since they were born, and of course they want very different cakes.  A pink and purple castle and The Flash.  Wish me luck - and have a very Happy Passover or Easter to those who celebrate or just a happy rest of the week in general!

Spring Flower Cupcakes for Donate Life Month

Did you know April is Donate Life Month? The Donate Life organization is trying to increase awareness and the number of registered organ, eye, and tissue donors out there.  Not to go into a lot of detail but the demand far out weighs the supply here.  My 6 year (almost 7!) year old girlie girl had a heart transplant when she was 8 months old.  Had her donor family not decided to donate, well, I don't even want to think about where we would be.  Since then we try to do what we can to increase awareness for the organization and for organ donation in general.

Actually today (April 11th) is Donate Life's #blueandgreenday - and supporters are supposed to get creative with blue and green - the colors of Donate Life.  AND since you probably expect sweets on the blog, I figured I'd get creative with some cupcakes to celebrate spring coming and new beginnings in support Donate Life month.

I started with some Trader Joe's Fruity O's cereal.  It's kinda like the Trader Joe's version of Fruit Loops - but the colors/flavors all come from fruit and veggies.  Glue them into a flower shape with some melted yellow candy melt.

Once dry, I added a pretzel stick stem/leaves attached with more melted candy.  Add some "grass" icing and then add the flowers as toppers to some cupcakes.  Add that's it, so easy.

I also made some Donate Life pretzel snacks.  Blue and Green candy melt on top of square pretzels,   with black candy melt used to write the name on top. Then just plopped some onto the cupcakes too.

And you get some cute spring cupcakes that make my little punkin' pie smile like this:

Thanks for stopping by and if you are not already an organ donor, please consider learning more.  You can visit the Donate Life site to find more information.

We are actually doing a 5K Walk this June in support of the NJ Sharing Network - our local organization supporting organ and tissue donation.  If you'd like to donate to Team Greta, please go here.  Thanks so much!

Peeps Flavored Milk

Do you love all the new Peeps flavors that keep popping up everywhere?? If so I have a super simple treat for the Peeps lovers out there.  Peeps flavored milk!

And by simple, I mean simple.

Add some milk to a cup.

Dunk 1-2 Peeps in the milk for about 1/2 hour.

You get some really cool rainbow colored milk AND it was a fun way to try some of the new flavors like Party Cake, Orange Creme, Sour Watermelon, and Strawberry Creme.  Find all the available Peeps here.

They also make for a fun Peeps par-tay!

If you like cereal milk, you will love this Peeps milk!

Although I've done a gagillion Peeps treats over the years, this is the first one using the chicks.  Sorry Peeps chicks, I think I've been discriminating against you all this time - hopefully this makes up for it.

Also just a fun Peeps fact, if you do dip your Peeps into milk (or probably any liquid) their eyes will float off into the liquid.  A little odd to see that floatin' around in the milk!
