Mini Cereal Bowl Cookies & Cupcakes

I have a problem that I love cereal way too much.  There, it feels good to come clean with that.  I wonder if you can be addicted to cereal? And by cereal I mean pretty much all of them.  The junkie and the so called good for you cereals too.  I don't care what kind it is - add some to milk to a bowl of any kind and I'm a happy camper.  The cereal marketers love me because I'm a sucker for any new cereal or retro cereal box.

There's just something about the crunchy cereal and milk together and then you get that awesome cereal milk at the end.

And for those of you who dump your cereal milk - we can't be friends.  You are wasting the best part!

If you are similar to me then you'll love these treats.

Mini cereal cookie bowls - filled with all my fav cereals!

Start with some sugar cookie bowls.

When I made these mini strawberry and grape cookie cups this summer I thought the base looked a lot like a little mini bowl, which then sparked the idea for these little all edible cereal bowls.

They don't even need to be perfect

Fill them with some "milk" aka cream cheese frosting and top with all your favorite cereals.

You can pretend you don't scarf a bowl of your fav junkie cereal standing up in the kitchen but we all know we've been there done that!

Tiny spoons are made from melted candy wafers sprayed with some silver edible color spray.

Cute on their own...

or add them to cupcakes as a super special treat!

And seriously who can resist a mini bowl of fruity pebbles??! I know not me.

(Please let me know that I'm not the only cereal addict out there!)

Enjoy and thanks for stopping by.  Can't wait to see ALL of the Fall and Halloween treats this year!

Pokemon Go Sweet & Salty Snack Mix - with Pikachu and Mini Pokeballs

Are you into the Pokemon craze like we are? The kids and I have such a fun time playing it.  What's not to love - super cute Pokemon characters, augmented reality, gamification and exercise!

We walk around catching Pokemon, hitting Pokestops, and battling in gyms - and bonus - we talk to each other about neat topics while doing all this.  It's actually a great way to do something fun with the kids (and something they like just as much).

If you have kiddos all into Pokemon Go, then this cereal snack mix will be a hit.  It's sweet and salty and seriously addicting.

The Pokeballs are made from yogurt covered pretzel balls.

Dip half into melted red candy wafers

Add the rest of the detail with melted black candy wafers and use a round white sprinkle as the center

The tiny Pikachu heads are made with Corn Pops cereal, red and black sprinkles.  Yellow melted candy wafer was used to attach everything together and black edible marker for ear, nose, and mouth.

And because regular Pokeballs were not enough - I also made Great Pokeballs.

You know just in case you have a really tough Pokemon to catch!

You can throw it all into a bowl and let everyone dive in....

OR serve in individual cups!

This sweet and salty cereal mix would make a great addition to any Pokemon party or if you need to restore your energy after a long afternoon of pokemoning!

PS In case you are wondering I'm currently Level 15 - 105410 XP and Team Mystic!

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  2. Combine butter, syrup, brown sugar, salt in bowl and microwave 1 minute until melted.
  3. Add baking soda and vanilla and microwave another 30 seconds.
  4. Add to bowl with cereal and mix well.  Spread onto backing sheet to dry.
  5. For Pokeballs: Melt some red or blue candy melts in small bowl in microwave in 20 second intervals until candy is just melted.  Insert toothpick into bottom of pretzel ball and dip 1/2 into candy.  Let harden 10 minutes. 6. For Pikachu: Find the right sized Corn pop cereral for the head.  Cut 2 small ears out of the cereal for each head.  Melt yellow candy melt in microwave and add to a freezer bag. Snip one small corner and use it to attach the ears to the head. Let harden.  Use more melted yellow candy to attach red and black sprinkles.  Add mouth, nose, and ear detail with black edible writing marker.

Craft Beer Cereal Treats for Oktoberfests

This treat is for the grown-ups.  I made some craft beer cereal treats - meaning rice krispies treats made with BEER!

There's beer in both the treats and the glaze.  And if you like craft beer, there is Ballast Point's Grapefruit Sculpin in this recipe.  Even though there's grapefruit in it - it's not too fruity just a really good IPA (India Pale Ale) that we tend to keep around the house a lot!

You make the treats pretty much the same way with butter, marshmallows, and rice krispies cereal.  The beer thinned the marshmallow mixture a bit so the treats were a little less sticky than regular treats.  I've adjusted the recipe below to try to account for that.

Mix some powdered sugar with a little of the beer to make a tasty little beer-y glaze.

And top with some draft flavored jelly beans! Who knew they made beer flavored jelly beans? Well they do - so I had to top the treats with some.  The beer flavor does come through, but its not overly beer-y (is that a word?).

Drizzle the glaze on top, add some jelly beans and cut into squares.

A unique little adult treat to bring to all the Oktoberfests coming up soon - or for your next football party!!

Thanks so much for stopping by - I'm slowly accepting that summer is over and trying to get back into loving all that is Fall.

Beer Flavored Rice Krispies Treats recipe

Makes 20 treats (depending on how large your squares are cut)

Ingredients:
    • 1 bag of mini marshmallows (plus an extra 2-3 cups)
    • 6 cups of rice krispies cereal
    • 3 tablespoons of butter
    • 1/4 cup of your favorite beer (use a flavorful beer, this recipe used Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin IPA)
    • 2 cups of powdered sugar
    • 2 tablespoons of same beer
    • 1 cup of draft beer flavored jelly beans

Directions:
  • Melt butter over medium heat in a large stove top pan.
  • Add bag of mini marshmallows and beer and mix.  Add extra marshmallows (1 cup at a time) until marshmallow/butter/beer mix is just sticky.
  • Mix in rice krispies.  Mix until all cereal is coated with mixture.
  • Add mixture to a 9X12 baking pan that has been sprayed with non stick spray.  Press down until compacted together.  Turn out onto parchment paper or similar paper.
  • For glaze: mix powdered sugar and remaining beer.  If glaze is too thin, add more powdered sugar.
  • Drizzle glaze onto treats.  Add jelly beans (optional)
  • Cut into squares and serve!

Pink Ballerina Tutu Cereal Treats

Sometimes you just need a sweet treat.  And sometimes you just need a pink and girlie cereal treat.  It makes a long and tough day much better.  Plus cereal treats are so easy to make, you can whip them up in like 15 minutes or less.

Mix up a batch of rice krispie treats.  You can use traditional rice krispies or whatever cereal you have hanging around.  You can't mess them up.  All you need is:
  • 6 cups of cereal
  • 1 package of mini marshmallows (10 ounces)
  • 3 Tablespoons of butter
  • Pink food gel/coloring
  • Pink candy melt (Wilton makes a new "hot pink" color now!)
  • Pearlized larger nonpareil sprinkles
Melt butter in a deep pan over medium.  Add marshmallows (turn off heat).  Once all nice and melty, tint pink with food gel/coloring.  Mix in cereal.  Add to a pan.  Let the treats "set" 5-10 mins.

Cut your treats into squares, then just "pipe" some melted candy into the tutu dress shape.  Before the candy dries, add some sprinkle accents to the dress.

And that's it, simple cute little cereal treats! These were for a special little girl's birthday party, who just happens to love love (love) ballerinas.    Cereal treats make me smile, always have, always will.

Thanks so much for stopping by!! Have a great rest of your week!

The Grinch Cereal Treats

I can't go a christmas season without the Grinch.  It's just impossible.  And by The Grinch, I mean the old cartoon, not the movie.  (Jim Carrey I love ya, but you can't beat the old animated movie!)

I did these Grinch cupcakes ages ago:

And I love how many have done the Grinch cupcakes similarly.  Do you ever google your stuff to see what comes up?? or maybe that's just me :) Anywho, I wanted to try something else grinch-y this year and I've been on a cereal treat kick lately because they are so easy and most people love 'em.  These are just the basic rice krispie treat recipe, and tinted chartreuse.  (in case you are wondering, 5:1 lemon yellow to leaf green food gel).  Here's a great mixing chart for colors!

Cut out rectangles and then cut/taper a little for the Grinch head.  Once you are happy with the shape, add yellow candy melt eyes, flat round sprinkles for the red eyes, and black candy melt for the mouth.

Add a little more light green candy melt for his tuft of hair.

And that's pretty much it.

And if you feel like it, do his pal Max the dog and Cindy Lou Who!

Well if Max and Cindy Lou were zombies! Ah well, at least I tried.  Not all of the things I think up come out exactly as pictured in my head.  Happy week before Christmas!

Cereal Treat Pumpkins

Does anyone else really love the General Mills Monster Cereals besides me?  I don't know why, they are all sugary and silly, but there is just something about them.  I don't let the kids eat them for breakfast, but making desserts from them is totally acceptable.  A couple years ago I did some different treats with Frankenberry, Boo-Berry and Count Chocula.

And look what I found the other day, a new monster cereal Fruity Yummy Mummy! WHAT??! Well apparently after doing some google research, this was available back in 1989, but discontinued in 1992.  It kinda tastes like an orange creamsicle.   Go figure, I thought I knew all the Monster Cereals.  There was even one called Frute Brute - which was discontinued back in '82. (See not only do you get fun treats on this blog, you also learn too.  OK maybe you'll be answer a random Trivial Pursuit question. You're Welcome!)

Love how the cereal looks like little pac-man ghosts!
I figured an easy treat to make with them would be cereal treats.  Use the regular Rice Krispie Treats recipe, and just substitute the new cereal for the Rice Krispies.  And cut into squares.

And although they were good, they needed a little something more.  Add a little green candy melt and a piece of pretzel stick, and you get Cereal Treat Pumpkins!

Ok ok ok, I know they are square pumpkins and all and could possibly look more like peaches, but I'm sticking with calling them little pumpkins! Either plain or dressed up, they are fun little treats.

And if you are really interested, looks like Target has all the Monster Cereals this year in their retro packaging! It's like it's 1980 all over again! I'm ready to bust out some metal roller skates and neon friendship bracelets.  Boo-Berry has always been my fav, but must try the Frute Brute!

Fun, right?? Anyways, I love this time of year and all the fun Halloween Treats showing up everywhere.  You all are so creative!  Have a great weekend!
