Super Hero Villain Gingerbread Men Cookies

Super Hero Villain Gingerbread Men Cookies

Hey all, it's only 5 days to Christmas! My kids are already so excited that they already are too excited to go to sleep and feel like everyday is taking forever.  I miss that feeling - I'm in a bit of a panic as I still feel like I have a bunch of stuff to run around and get.  The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas flies by faster and faster every year.  I guess I'm just old now!

That said, I did make time for gingerbread men as that's always a request from my kiddos this time of year.

I do them every year with a new theme, this year is:

Super Hero Villains!

Super Hero Villain Cookies

I've done super heroes before here so figured it was time to give their arch enemies some equal blog time.

I started with my favorite blank canvas - gingerbread men cut outs.  I used a gingerbread cookie mix to speed up the process, but of course you can use your favorite homemade recipe as well.

Do some prep work with royal icing and then add detail with melted candy wafers (I have almost every color they come in) and various sprinkles and edible food writers for more detail.

I just googled pictures for all my favorite villains - like the rebooted duo of Harley Quinn and Joker from Suicide Squad!

Mystique from X-Men is one of my favs too - escorted by Thanos and Magneto of course.

It's actually hard to pick a favorite villain.  I mean who would you pick? Cat Woman, Poison Ivy, or the Riddler?? They are all so unique and fun.  I was only going to do a handful but then had a hard time narrowing them down!  Go figure.

Ultron got a little funky but I love Venom's red tongue!  I don't know Red Skull as well but one of my kids said he was a must - he's the archenemy of Captain America, apparently.

And of course the trio from Batman.  (The Penguin's umbrella is a candy coated pretzel stick!)

Mr. Freeze The Penguin Two-Face cookies

A couple of docs (as in Doom and Octopus) and Loki - Thor's evil brother - is he really evil or just misunderstood?? Don't really care and I love him regardless!

And for those of you that can't blend comic book universes (you know who you are!), here they are with their own "kind"!

Marvel Villains

And

DC Villains

I've been making gingerbread men over the past few years so it's kind of a tradition now.  Who would you do next in gingerbread form?

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great week!

P.S. Take a look at past themed gingerbread men and ladies!

Wonder Woman & Aquaman Candy Hearts

Did you know Wonder Woman turned 75???

Still going strong for 75 if you ask me.   As so many do, I have a thing for Wonder Woman as a strong and powerful role model.  I know a lot of people probably have issues with her outfit these days, but I think you can kick some butt and still look good because you want to (not because dudes like it).

Anywhoo, in additon to WW turning 75, I made some candy hearts for both Wonder Woman AND Aquaman since they both have their own movies coming out next year.  They both showed up in Batman Vs Superman so we got a preview of what they're up to.  Aquaman is no longer the blond hair blue eyed comic book hero who has the power of talking to fish.  He looks like a bad a$$ and is played by Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones fans will recognize him as Khal Drogo) and probably the furthest you can get from the traditional Aquaman look!

I know, right??

Although I love the new look, I still love the old orange and green colors as well.

For these candies, start with heart shaped peppermint patties (scooped up on sale after Valentines day - freeze them and they are as good as the day you bought them!)

Dip each top and bottom in some candy wafers/melts in the coordinated colors of Wonder Woman and Aquaman.

I know I just complained about hating to dip stuff here BUT these are really easy to dip and no expertise needed at all.

Dip one side then dip the other and add your accents while the candy is still wet.

Easy peasy.

Aren't they super cute?!

And I would totally ship a Wonder Woman/Aquaman romance.  I don't think that's in the stars but it would be an interesting movie cross over angle!

Now go vote for your favorite Wonder Woman running for president!

Wonder Woman and Aquaman Candy Hearts
Ingredients
  • 18 heart shaped mini Peppermint Patty (or other heart shaped candy will work too)
  • 4 cups of candy melts/wafers (1 cup of red, blue, green, orange)
  • 1/2 cup of candy melts/wafers (1/4 cup of black and 1/4 cup of yellow)
  • white non-pariel sprinkles
  • green sugar sprinkles
Instructions:
  1. Melt the candy wafers in microwave safe bowl in 10-20 second intervals until candy is melted.  Stir in between intervals.   Do one color at a time when you need to use them or candy hardens quickly.
  2. Dip 1/2 of heart shaped chocolate in each of coordinating super hero colors.  Let candy harden 10 minutes in between dippings.
  3. While candy is still wet add sprinkles for accents (as in pictures)
  4. Add some yellow melted candy to plastic freezer bag, snip a small corner and "pipe" A (Aquaman logo) onto parchment.  Let harden 10 minutes.
  5. Using same yellow melted candy in freezer bag, add detail to Wonder Woman heart (see pictures).
  6. Add some black melted candy to plastic freezer bag, snip a small corner and "pipe" blag band across Aquaman heart (for belt).  While still wet add the hardened "A" onto middle of heart.
  7. Let dry 10 minutes.

Marvel's Deadpool No Bake Cookies

Are you ready for the next Marvel X-Men movie installment?! Deadpool - the story of "anti-hero" Wade Wilson opens this month on February 12th and I can't wait to see it.

At least the trailer looks pretty cool:

I love Deadpool because not only can he heal himself - but is known as the "merc with a mouth" and has a "twisted sense of humor" - cue the jokes and shenanigans.  He's also not pretty.  Well Ryan Reynolds plays him so that could be a stretch, but he is supposed to be disfigured, hence the mask.

lolz!

He also knows he's a comic book character and often talks to the reader (or in the movie he probably talks directly to the camera) - in the geek world this is called breaking the "fourth wall".  Love it.

Well as usual my way of welcoming some of my fav pop culture icons, I make treats.

In this case Deadpool Cookies.

They are really very easy and no bake so you can make them in no time flat.  I'm sure Deadpool would have some snarky comment about them.  Bring 'it Deadpool, bring it!

Pop over and see more here at sheknows.

Silver Surfer Whoopie Pies

So as the annual tradition dictates, I made the hubster whoopie pies for his birthday this year.  Not just any old whoopie pies, Silver Surfer whoopie pies!

The Silver Surfer is his fav Marvel super hero.  If you don't know the back story, Silver Surfer started out as a herald for Galactus.   Galactus is the bad guy who eats world's energy- HE DEVOURS WORLDS.  That's a bad ass villian super power if you ask me.  Well Silver Surfer used to find worlds to be on deck for Galactus, but when he came to Earth and met the Fantastic Four - he had a change of heart and turned on Galactus.

Anyway, the hubster has always been a huge Silver Surfer fan and still has his comic book collection from when he was in college.  My original plan was to buy him the first Silver Surfer comic (circa 1968) but I can't really justify spending the hefty price tag for it when it will probably be sitting in a plastic sleeve for years, so went with plan B.  (Although I have to admit Issue #1 looks pretty darn cool!)

Plan B was Silver Surfer themed whoopie pies.  They start like any other whoopie pie recipe.  I always use this recipe because it's so tasty and pretty fail safe.   Pipe and bake your "pie" circles.

Once cool, add the text (or whatever your design) with melted candy wafers/melts.  You could use  melted white chocolate chips as well.

The silver is from silver color mist - which is like edible spray paint.  If you have not used this before, try it, it makes coloring some projects so easy and fast! (I don't get paid or product from Wilton, I just love the stuff and have it in most colors!).  Once the candy melt is hardened, spray the color mist on both whoopie pie halves and let dry.

Add your favorite whoopie pie filling and serve.

And as I mentioned, in place of birthday cake we do birthday whoopie pies!

Happy birthday to my best friend, The best dad, and my better half for the past 20+ years!

And thank you for swinging by - have an awesome week!

These Avengers Popsicles are so fun!

Instead of baking for myself on Mother's Day, I opted for the easy way out and just enjoyed some store bought popsicles with the kiddos.

The Original Brand Popsicle makes all kinds on neat themed frozen treats these day and I love love (love!) these Avengers Assemble ones.

They make them in Iron Man, Hulk, and Captain America colors - with a surprise of color inside too.

Popsicles are always a hit around here, and honestly it made this Mother's Day even easier for me.  No bake, no mess, and fun.

AND bonus - we just saw the new Avengers Age of Ultron movie this weekend! It was really good guys.  If you are super hero fans (or even if not) go see it! There are the same Avengers everyone loves - but it also introduces a few new characters as well.  Ultron of course, but Vision, and also Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself!

All in all a great Mother's Day weekend!  Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! I truly hope you enjoyed your day.  Have a great week!

The Avengers - Age of Ultron Super Hero Rice Krispies Treats Fun Snacks

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #KreateMyHappy #CollectiveBias

So by now you probably know I kinda have a thing for Super Heroes.  I used to blame it on my kids but I'll fess up and admit that I love them too.  There's just something about the colors, the super powers, the stories, etc that makes me fall into the various super hero fandoms like so many others.  If you check out the side bar menu you can see I've made quite a few super hero treats.

These Rice Krispies Treats fit right in since they are for the new Avengers Age of Ultron movie coming out soon.

I started with Rice Krispie Treats which I found at my local food store, Shop Rite.  You can find them in the aisle with other snack bars and fruit snacks.  Every time I see them it brings me back to being a little kid.  I remember everyone's fav treat was Rice Krispies Treats and it was a huge deal when we had them back in the day.  They still put a smile on my face when I see them!

They  also make easy and super portable school treats, especially with so many nut/peanut and gluten allergies.  These pre-packaged ones definitely speed up the process of making these super hero'ed up treats.

Start with your blank "canvas"

Print out some pictures of your favorite super heroes - either the hero logo or other familiar details.   I went with an Avengers theme, but go for your fav characters!  I have all sorts of colors of melting candy wafers/melts so I used them as my "paint".  I put some candy melts in a freezer baggie and microwaved it for about 10-20 second intervals until just melted.  Then snip an end of the baggie and "pipe" on the detail.  To layer colors, wait until the first color is dry. It only takes a minute or 2, depending on how thick you add the color.

I also did Ultron and Vision, 2 of the new characters from the Age of Ultron movie due out this May.

Hopefully you'll recognize the others!

We love RCTs on their own and these were a huge hit not only with the kiddos but the adults here too!

Super Hero Rice Krispies Treats

Makes: 8 Superhero Treats
Prep Time: 1 and ½ hours (make sure you have all the melting candy wafers you need – you can mix wafers to get colors you cannot buy in stores)

Ingredients:

8 Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Treats
Plain M and Ms
Assorted colors of melting candy wafers/melts

Directions to make your favorite superhero characters:
  1. Find pictures of your favorite superheroes (either logos or familiar details).
  2. Add ¼ to ½ cup of candy wafer to a quart sized freezer baggie.  Microwave in 15-20 second intervals until candy is just melted.  Do this for each color when you are ready to use it.  Snip a small end of the corner of the baggie and “pipe” your colors on.  If the candy hardens, re-microwave for 10 seconds.
  3. For Iron Man: Use red candy to cover the entire treat.  Add blue M and Ms as his core while candy is still wet.  Once red candy is hardened add detail with black, yellow and white melted wafers.
  4. For Thor: Use gray candy to make buttons for his chest plate on parchment paper and let harden.   Use blue to cover entire treat.  Add some red in the corners and add the gray candy “buttons” while blue candy is wet.
  5. For Black Widow (or you can do Spiderman similarly): Use red to cover entire treat. Add a large brown mega M and M and small plain brown M and M while candy is still wet. Add spider legs with brown or black candy melt and red for Black Widow’s logo on the spider’s back.
  6. For Hulk: Add purple (bottom), light green (middle) and dark green (top) candy melt to cover treat.
  7. For Captain America: Make a red circle in center of treat.  While circle is still wet, add a round blue candy wafer.  Working out from the circle, add a white ring, then red ring, etc.  Add white star with white candy wafer.
  8. For Hawkeye: Cover treat in purple candy.  Once purple is hardened, add black detail.  Add black arrow (made from black candy melt) on top.
  9. For Ultron: cover treat in red candy.  Once dried add gray/black face detail.  You can get gray by mixing about 10-15 white wafers with 1 black wafer.
  10. For Vision: Add yellow V shape.  Cover bottom in gray candy and top with purple candy.  Add outline in black.
