Cute Horror Movie Pumpkin Spice'men Cookies

Scary horror movie character cookies

It's officially October so here come all the Halloween treats and ideas!

I usually do some character-inspired gingerbread cookies around the holidays but found pumpkin spice cookie mix so decided to mix it up and make some pumpkin spice'men cut out cookies since it's also pumpkin spice season.

Once the cookie dough is mixed up and chilled, roll out and use a gingerbread man cookie cutter to cut out shapes.

I had to make some of my favorite slasher villains from the 80s

Jason Freddy Krueger Michael Myers cookies

A couple of villainous kids!

And a couple other favs that are just plain disturbing
(white sprinkles used as Pinhead's face nails!)

Pinhead and Hannibal Lecter cookies

And the creepiest clown of all from It

Pennywise It Clown Cookie

In cookie form I think they are pretty cute for horror film anti-heroes!

Hamilton the Musical Gingerbread Cookies

So it's Christmas time in August!

I totally missed Christmas in July and in all transparency I made these cookies last Christmas but never got around to posting them - well because regular life got in the way.

They are still super fun so posting them now.

Hamilton The Musical Gingerbread Cookies!

Made using a regular gingerbread man cookie cutter with some store-bought gingerbread cookie mix to speed the process a bit.  Royal icing made the faces smooth and you can get good skin colors as needed.  The rest of the detail is made with melted candy wafers in various colors, some sprinkles, and an edible food writer for face details.

I love the little heart mouths on Eliza, Angelica, and Peggy!

I knew nothing about Hamilton on Broadway except that it was a popular show.  Pre-COVID we took our kids as a last minute Christmas gift and we all loved it so much so I thought Hamilton character gingerbread cookies would be a hit around here.

It's hard to pick a favorite character as they are all so fun and written so well!

(King George is my fav!)

Although it's called Hamilton, it's really a story about Eliza Hamilton and "forgiveness"

Do you also love Hamilton?? Who is your favorite??

Kawaii Turkey Sugar Cookies for Thanksgiving

kawaii turkey cookies

Happy almost Thanksgiving in this pandemic era.  I know this holiday season will be so unlike others and families may or may not be getting together.

To bring a little happiness I made some sugar cookies as "cute" turkeys!

Every year I try making edible turkeys for Turkey day and I try to cute them up as real turkeys are far from cute!

Start with a no spread cookie dough recipe.  I use this one from In Katrina's Kitchen and it works great every time.  It's kinda like making stuff with play-doh

I used mostly natural food colorants:
yellow = tumeric
chartreuse = tumeric + matcha
orange = tumeric + drop orange food gel
pink = beet powder
brown = cocoa powder
green = matcha
purple = hibiscus powder
dark green = green spirulina
cream = no color

I was trying to figure out how to make the turkey feathers and decide to roll out balls and/or strips of colors

Roll out 2 discs of color (1 slightly larger for the back and a smaller one for the head).  Then mix and match colors for tail feathers and smush them down a little.

OR you can roll out longer feathers and use brown discs for more traditional turkeys

Once baked add a candy-coated sunflower seed for a beak

Use a black food writer to add eyes and use red candy melt to add the gobbler thing!

The short and squat turkeys took way less time and I think they may even be cuter!

Do you think turkeys are cute?

But more importantly, which do you like better??

The Simpsons Gingerbread Men Cookies

Happy 2020!

These cookies were supposed to be posted before Christmas, but oh well better late than never right?!

As a tradition, I make decorated gingerbread men cookies around the holidays in my fav pop culture characters every year.

This time I went with The Simpsons! The kids are totally into the show and since we have a free year of Disney+ we can watch all of the seasons together.  And there are a lot of seasons.  Did you know they had their 30th anniversary last December?? 30 years and the haven't aged a bit!

I used a regular gingerbread man cutter but added a little extra for Marge's hair and cut down the size for Maggie the littlest Simpson.

I had a hard time picking my favorite characters because there are SO many to choose from over 30 years!

But some of my favs are Mr. Burns and his side kick Smithers.

Krusty the Clown and Chief Wiggum

Everyone's favorite bar keep Moe and Apu from the Quickie Mart

And rounded out with Groundskeeper Willie, neighbor Flanders, and Bart's best bud Milhouse

They made a great addition to a holiday party cookie platter!

Do you still watch the Simpsons? Did your fav character make the cut? If not who is missing??

Here are some of the other gingerbread men / women I've done over the years! It's so fun to make the characters in gingerbread man form!

Willy Wonka Gingerbread Men Cookies

It's my fav time of year when all the Christmas and holiday cookies come out!

Every year I do some themed gingerbread men cookies and this year it's

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory!

The original 1971 movie is on my all time favorites list so it was just a matter of time before these fun characters showed up in cookie form!

Willy Wonka is also one of my have internet memes!

Start with some cut out gingerbread men.  I use royal icing for faces and some detail that needs a smoother look.

The rest of the detail is done with melted candy wafers/melts

Melt in a microwave safe bowl then add candy to zip lock bags to pipe the detail on.  You can reheat if needed in 5-7 second intervals.

I love all the Willy Wonka characters since they are so unique.

Even the bad eggs!

In case you needed some help:

Grandpa Joe (with his Fizzy Lifting Drink and Charlie (and his golden ticket)

Violet Beauregarde (plumped up like a blueberry but still blowing bubbles)
and
Veruca Salt (She got her golden egg)

Augustus Gloop (eating a Wonka Bar of course) and Mike Teevee (and his mini TV self!)

And of course the iconic Willy Wonka and his Oompa Loompas

I'm bringing them to a party since they make for such a fun cookie platter for grown ups and kids!

Which character is your favorite?

Merry Christmas to all that celebrate and get ready for 2019!

PS I use a gingerbread cookie mix to speed the process and I find the cookie dough rolls out great and the gingerbread men keep their shape when baked!
