fast times at ridgemont high cupcakes....!

....so remember when HBO was new and only had the same 10 or so movies on all the time?.....well Fast Times at Ridgemont High was on all the time.....it's one of those rated R movies that you were not really allowed to watch, but kinda snuck it in here and there....it totally reminds of the 80s and whenever it's on now....you just have to leave on!

....also after doing The Big Lebowski cupcakes last year for father's day....the hubby has requested movie cupcakes every year!...so this year is Fast Times at Ridgemont High.....

....the main characters are represented in cupcakes form.....(you kinda have to know the movie though to really get it!)

...the mr. hand (edible chocolate chalkboard...super easy directions found here at dollhouse bake shoppe!)...made with a chocolate bar, powdered sugar, candy melt and white sprinkles

...and the jeff spicoli...the character sean penn can never escape from! 3 layers of pizza circles topped with a taco and cheese seasoned cream cheese "frosting", then topped with a cracker written with one of his fav sayings with edible marker

...the linda barrett....played by phoebe cates and best known for driving teenage boys cray cray with her swimming pool scene....(google "fast times at ridgemont high swimming scene" and you'll see what i mean)....a vanilla cupcake with some candy melt toppers.....

...and the brad hamilton (my fav character in the movie!)...who proudly worked at all american burger ('til he got fired for popping a gasket and then had to take a job at the much lower captain hook's fish and chips)...vanilla cupcake sliced in half with a slice of chocolate cupcake for the burger....tinted coconut for lettuce and tinted buttercream for the cheese and ketchup....and some sesame seeds on top

...the mark "rat" ratner, some popcorn (he worked at the movie theater!) atop a plain vanilla cupcake with vanilla buttercream

....and the stacy hamiltion...same vanilla cupcake with swirled red buttercream and a red bow which is supposed to be her uniform at the pizza place she worked at across from the movie theater...(plus a candy melt carrot---if you know the movie you may know what that's for ;)

...AND the mike damone...who can every forget his 5 point plan he demonstrated on debbie harry?....he needed a pic all on his own....some candy melt coated graham cracker "van halen" tickets (don't call him a scalper...he performs a service and that service costs money) and his skinny piano scarf made from vanilla tootsie roll and detail in edible marker....if you were an 80's kid you had to have a skinny piano tie or scarf!

...and you get a bunch of cupcakes in tribute to one of the quintessential 80's movies around!...

....we had a great father's day and the kids had no clue what these cupcakes were all about...and that's ok...i made a couple extra burgers and they enjoyed those plus some ice pops....so all was good in the world!

....thanks for stopping by and have a super awesome week before 4th of july....can't wait to see all the red, white, and blue stuff popping up all over the place!...thanks for also indulging in my 80'sness lately...what's your favorite 80s movie??

amsterdam inspired waffles...!

...so back in may, i had a work trip to amsterdam...first time there and i was on my own....once the meeting was done i took the train into amsterdam city (btw-so easy to navigate the trains there!)....i stumbled upon these while exploring the city....

....belgian waffles or "wafels" topped with all sorts of sugary goodness....!...AND they ask you if you want them warmed....i had the strawberry and chocolate one warmed and it was unbelievably messy and delicious!

so needless to say i had to try it out once i got home....but these are just plan old waffles dipped in melted chocolate....then raided all the sprinkles i have stored up....

....i also found these neat sprinkles in the city too.....once i got home and opened them i found out they were anise flavored (kinda like tiny little good n' plenty's!)....

....the amsterdam belgian waffles were far better....but these were fun too and a nice treat to bring into the office!

....oh and what dad wouldn't want some sugary waffles for father's day?! Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there....

...since i was on my own in amsterdam i did a lot of instagram'ing....here are a few of them

bitterballen (dutch meatballs) and wieckse beer for dinner
loved the meeting snacks (yes - cupcakes topped with maracons!)
in line at the Anne Frank House and Museum
people watchin' the red light district
stumbled upon a fun carnival
bicycling is the norm in amsterdam
this is how a mall rolls in amsterdam city!
Dutch roze koeks "pink cakes" common there--kinda like pound cake with layer of fondant
....thanks amsterdam for a great time and the dutch people were super nice....can't wait to go back!

ps. hope you like the new blog face--it's still a WIP and i want to add a menu bar, but thanks to Something Swanky's great tutorials....i was able to do some stuff on my own....it took forevs but you do get a nice sense of accomplishment :)

triple crown cupcakes...ok maybe not!

....so i was all set to make some triple crown cupcakes for the Belmont Stakes horse race today...!

...in support of I'll Have Another...the horse that won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness races this year.....the first horse in 34 years with a chance at the Triple Crown (winning all 3 races)....but sadly he was just retired early due to tendonitis.....huge bummer!....but i guess that's a tribute to his owner and trainers because they easily could have not mentioned anything and raced him anyway...glad to know they really do care about the well being of the animals too....

BUT these are still for the Belmont Stakes today!....i'm going with Dullahan for the win....so some vanilla cupcakes with chocolate buttercream and crushed graham crackers for him!.....they are made with this stuff added into a white boxed cake mix....

...some color changing pudding...which to me just looks green!

...and the cupcakes are filled with this stuff (which i got from santa in my stocking and totally forgot about until now!)

delicious! reminds me of really really concentrated butter beer from Harry Potter (so obviously must do some type of cupcake related to that)....

...they are frosted with some chocolate buttercream and covered in crushed chocolate graham crackers (hopefully that looks like the dirt track)....toppers are candy melt/wafers....the 3 races logos and some horse shoes....

....the texture of the crunchy top, vanilla cake, and the toffee filling makes one of my most fav cupcakes to date!....it's probably not going to be one of my kids favs because of the filling...but i think most grown ups will love 'em...(i hope!)....

....have a great rest of your weekend...it was a really tough week for me, so i'm looking forward to relaxing with kids and good friends and enjoying the good times....!

thanks for stopping by and stop by these fun blog hops too if you get the chance....
