Day 7 Star Wars Creature Candies & Cupcakes #12daysofStarWars

Hey all Happy Saturday! Guess what?? Only 5 days until the new movie opens!

And for the #12daysofStarWars countdown we're onto:

THE 7TH DAY OF STAR WARS

Star Wars Creature Candies and Cupcakes!

All of the creatures in the SW franchise are my favorites and a reason why so many love the movies. I'm totally speculating on that but if I had to guess why the movies have lasted so long, one of the reasons would be the awesome creatures peppered throughout.

Many creatures don't have lines but they do play big parts.

Remember the Mynocks?  They were creatures within a creature. Or the Sarlacc that is consuming Boba Fett over years and years (or so when we last saw him anyway).

Some of my other favs are the Bantha - that produces cool light blue milk, the Acklay - all claws and fangs, the Jawa (utini!), the Rancor - crushed by Luke on Jabba's sand barge, and the Sarlacc again.

I can't forget 2 of my favorite Hoth planet creatures.  The Tauntaun whose innards make a nice sleeping blanket and the Wampa - who I feel could be the misunderstood Bumble from Rudolph.

And these guys are my favorite trio of all time.

Ewoks - We just named our newest puppy Wicket - so big Ewok fans here.  They are a force to be reckoned with even with their primitive tools.  Max Rebo - one of the musicians that plays for Jabba - he needs a better agent.  And another Jawa, because they travel in packs.

Enjoy them on their own as candies or use them to make some Star Wars themed cupcakes in celebration of the new movie.

And I know these creatures are not to scale - or Max Rebo would be tiny compared to the Rancor or a Bantha but let's pretend all is well since they are candy anyway!  Only a few more days to go until The Force Awakens hits movie theaters.

Next SW treat up tomorrow nite!

Stop back everyday for another Star Wars treat or follow along on FacebookInstagram and/or Twitter! #12daysofStarWars @sugarswings

How To Make Star Wars Creatures

Ingredients:
  • Marshmallows and shapes of marshmallow Peeps (halloween cats, ghosts)
  • Melting candy wafers in various colors
  • Pretzel sticks (for Acklay legs and Ewok staff)
  • Sweetened coconut flakes (for Wampa)
  • Red licorice (for Sarlacc)
  • M and M's (for Mynocks and Jawa face)
  • Brown, red, and white sprinkles (for Acklay and Mynocks, Tauntaun, and Wampa and Sarlacc)
  • Black round sprinkles (various character eyes)
  • yellow round sprinkles (Jawa eyes)
  • Orange Tootsie roll (rolled to make Ewok hood)
Directions:
  1. Cut Peeps and marshmallows into basic character shapes.
  2. Cover or coat with candy melts in appropriate character colors.
  3. Use pretzels, coconut, and other ingredients as details (follow pictures).  Add these while the candy melt is still unhardened or add more melted candy wafers to attach details to the creature.
  4. Mynocks have no marshmallow and are all candy melt/m and m candies, and sprinkles.
  5. Acklay uses candy coated pretzel sticks as legs.
  6. Ewoks hood is a rolled orange Tootsie Roll- microwave 5 seconds and then roll candy and cut to shape.

Cute Star Wars Cupcakes - Cupcake Couture Blog Party "Back to School"

More fun from Carrie over at Bella Cupcake Couture! This time it's up to us - with a lot of help from some super creative kiddos - to come up with a design on plain cupcake wrappers for this Back to School Blog Party! And as with every Cupcake Couture Party, there is a neat giveaway prize pack, see the details below!

So here's what came in the mail:

How fun are these straws??
My kids love to draw and create, I mean LOVE.  And they are good at it, especially my newly turned 9 year old, Jack.  A way better artist then me.  So this was a simple request, draw something, and anything you like on the cupcake wrappers.  What did he pick? Duh, Star Wars of course.  It was a no brainer for him.  I've mentioned it a million times before but we have major Star Wars freaks living here.  He's also way into the Origami Yoda book series, and just got him for his birthday the new book, The Surprise Attack of Jabba the Puppett and Art2-D2's Guide to Folding and Doodling, which gives all kinds of ideas for folding Star Wars characters and making cute doodle characters as well.

And of course light sabers were required.  These were just made from cutting the straws into thirds and adding a little black tape around the bottoms. Attach the festive sabers with some more tape.

Here is what Jack has to say about them:

"It was pretty easy to make the doodles all I had to do was trace a quarter! Also my most favorite Star Wars character  is Yoda! I like Yoda because he is the Jedi Grand Master and taught Luke Skywalker to be a Jedi. My All-Time favorite cupcake flavor lemon!!!!!!! I love to fold origami and paper airplanes.  Hope you like the cupcakes!"

Here are the characters drawn on Bella Cupcake Couture wrappers up close:

Can't go wrong with Luke, Leia, and Yoda
Love Obi-Wan's stubble!
Is it possible to make the Emperor look cute? Yes!
A trio of bad guys
And you get some really fun and easy Star Wars cupcakes!

Please pop over and see what my virtual friends created for the Back to School Blog Party too!

snow monster cupcakes.....!

....so who do you think would win in a fight....rudolph's abominable snow monster of the north (aka bumble)....

OR

.....the star wars wampa...?

....these are the things i think about....that's normal right?.....and are there other well known "snow monsters"...?.....well regardless....i tried making these 2 in cupcake form...!.....these were for my nephew who is also a star wars fan but also has one of those dreaded december birthdays....which kinda gets lumped in with christmas....happy birthday jarad!.....

...started with a red velvet cake mix then iced cupcakes with some melted candy wafers in blue for the bumble and black for the wampa.....(btw if you are not a fan of icing...this is a great way to ice cupcakes as an alternative)

....the inspiration for the bumble is from the Candy Valley Cake Company's FB page...made with coconut and candy wafers for the detail.....also did some mini's because abominal's have families....right?

abominable snowmonster cupcakes

....and inspiration for the wampa cupcakes are from geeks are sexy sent in by a reader...made with coconut and the detail also done with candy melt....(and man i totally forgot i did a wampa cupcake before as part of this post! who what have thunk someone would do 2 wampa themed cupcakes and forget about one....duh, i do too much star wars related stuff!!!)

wampa cupcakes

....and you get a bunch "cute" snow monster cupcakes.....and realistically the wampa should win the fight....but since the bumble is really good at heart versus those man eating wampas.....i'll say the bumble wins....and he's just goofier too!....

wampa and bumble cupcakes

.....merry christmas to everyone out there who celebrates!!!....my kiddos are young so it's really fun this year....2 out of 3 could not fall asleep tonight....ahh i remember that feeling when the next christmas day just could not come fast enough and it was impossible to fall asleep that night......fun to live that again through them now....thanks again for stopping by during this busy holiday season!!!

ps if you have never seen the old rudolph tv special or star wars this post is probably very confusing to you....sorry!

a star wars party......!

star wars cupcake tower

....so my oldest turned 7 this summer and i'm finally gettin' around to posting all the fun we had at his star wars party....all the details on the star wars character cupcake tower and death star cake are here......

...but we also had a bunch of other star wars treats for the kiddos.....(thanks to justjenn for some great ideas!).....

....gatorade aka jabba juice....and bantha blue milk (milk with a couple drops of blue food coloring....unfortunately i think only a few select adults got this obscure reference but it's one of my favs!).....

....rice crackers made into vader's death stars with some edible food writers....store bought chocolate chip wookie cookies....and cheddar cheese rice crackers aka ewok munch.....

....store bought mint meringues aka cloud city meringues....

....and han solo in orange "jello-nite".....which is just a pic of han solo printed and cut out, covered in scotch tape then inserted into the jello before it was totally jelled....(big hit with the kids!)

....oh and also i did a little comparison for ya....i have 3 kinds of edible food writers.....americolor, wilton foodwriter, magic colors....in the pic above you can see how they did on the rice crackers....although i the wilton candy melts....i have to say their foodwriter is the worst and they don't do well when writing on candy melt when i've tried them for other projects....the magic colours gives a finer detail and point but it's not as dark as i'd like it to be....americolor is my fav....it gives a thicker line....and it's much darker than the others and lasts longer before having to give the writer a "rest"....and they work really well on candy melt too....i used them here for all the detail on the peep trooper pops.....

....can't resist sharing some pics of the kiddos in their star wars garb....we even made light sabers made from pool noodles...fun!

.....and a death star piñata (btw making a piñata sounds much easier than it actually is!...)

....and we were able to re-use the costumes for this halloween....!

....happy thursday to all....hope everyone in the nj/ny/ct area are doing ok post october storm....this was a pretty bad one..much worse than hurricane irene...lots of downed power lines, massive tree damage and huge limbs down (there were way too many leaves still on the trees and the weight of the wet heavy snow was too much and lots of limbs came down all over the area causing lots of damage and power outages)...the kiddos have been out of school all week and used up all their snow days already.....i guess it could be worse and luckily we have power and no damage to the house....some are not as lucky around here....anyhoo...be thankful for what you have as we enter november...!

death star cake and star wars cupcake tower....!

star wars cupcake tower
...so my oldest turns 7 this month....!...i'm not sure how that's possible as it seems like he was just a tiny little thing not so long ago.....
...i've been making his cakes since he turned one......and he's definitely a huge star wars fan (probably because we have a 40+ year old star wars freak in the house too)....so the request this year was for a star wars cake....originally it was for a 3-D standing jango fett cake.....needless to say i quickly talked him down from that....because some 3-D cakes are not my friend....but a death star "ball" i can handle....
...plus i've been meaning to do some star wars characters for awhile now.....and there are so many to choose from that it's fun to try doing them in edible form....(note: some turn out better than others!!)...

...the toppers are made from candy melts/wafers....same technique as i always use....print out some images (i got mine from mighty muggs since they are all about the same size and cartoon like so it was easier to do them in the candy melt this way (if anyone needs just the heads in a word doc, email me as i have this and can share it).....do all the detail first (stock up in black candy melt at halloween time as it comes in super handy....if you don't have black, just use dark brown....nobody will really care....well maybe those super star wars freaks like my 41 year old kid :) ...and let the detail dry about 5-10 minutes....
DSCN1950

...then fill in with the other main colors....have some toothpicks handy so you can smooth out the candy and get it into any tiny crevices....

DSCN1960

...simple enough right....?......

star wars cupcakes

.....here's captain rex, boba fett, darth maul, and r2d2.....

star wars cupcakes

.....and yoda, chewbacca, the wampa, and commander cody....

star wars cupcakes

....and luke skywalker, general grievous, lando calrissian (i <3 lando), and c3po (i have found 3po is tough in food form!)....

star wars cupcakes

.....and admiral ackbar (he may be my fav), an imperial guard, princess leia (she is NOT happy!), and a storm trooper.....

star wars cupcakes

.....and darth vader, darth maul (sorry i was in a rush and forgot who i included in the pics already), jango fett, and wicket the ewok.....

star wars cupcakes

.....and luke (again!), han solo, a scout trooper (or maybe a ghost!), and captain rex (again!)....
...the death star is made from the wilton sports ball pan...which i already had....and iced in vanilla buttercream.....

.....and then sprayed with this stuff in silver....
.....there have been some bad reviews of it online....but it worked out great for me.....and saved me a ton of time!...although i'm not sure a can would cover as much as it says it does on the label....or maybe i just used a lot for this project....
.....the detail was done by hand with icing tinted 2 shades of grey.....(arm was killing me the next day....this one seemed to take longer than the brobee cake piping....!)...
....and you get a star wars cupcake tower with a death star top for a pretty awesome 7 year old...!
....happy birthday jack!...you're the best kid ever!.....i hope one day you'll look back and read this blog when you're all grown up and know that i love you more and more each day...it's amazing to watch you grow and experience things for the first time and to see what a great person you are and will continue to be....and you are an awesome big bro to your brother and sister! (hopefully all of this won't be new news to you!).....love you lots....xxoo, mom
